Privacy Policy

Last updated August 13, 2026

Edge by Mariete is a fully on-device AI assistant. It has no accounts, no servers, and no analytics. This policy covers the app, and separately this website, which are not the same thing.

The short version

The Edge app does not collect, store, or transmit your personal data. There is no account to create, nothing to sign in to, and no server that receives your conversations. Everything you write stays in encrypted storage on your device.

This website is ordinary marketing infrastructure and does use analytics, with your consent. The two are independent: nothing measured here can see anything inside the app. The distinction is drawn out in full below, because a privacy claim that quietly glosses over the website is not worth much.

What the app collects

Nothing. Edge has no analytics SDK, no crash reporting service, no advertising identifiers, and no tracking of any kind. We do not build a profile of you, because we receive no information about you.

This is a property of how the app is built rather than a promise about how we behave. There is no backend to send data to.

What this website collects

Separately from the app, edge.mariete.ai uses Google Analytics 4, the Meta Pixel and the LinkedIn Insight Tag to understand how people find and read these pages. These load only after you accept them in the consent banner. Decline and they are never initialised.

These measure website visits: pages viewed, approximate location, referrer, and device or browser type. They cannot see your conversations, journal entries, or anything else inside the app, for the simple reason that the app never contacts our servers at all.

You can change your choice at any time from the consent banner, and you can block these outright with any content blocker without affecting how the site works.

Where your data lives

Conversations, journal entries, spaces, and memory are stored in a local database on your device, encrypted at rest with SQLCipher using AES-256. The encryption key is held in the device keychain and is protected by the operating system.

Because all storage is local, deleting the app permanently deletes your data. There is no cloud backup and no way for us to restore it. Settings contains an Export all my data option that writes everything to a single file you can keep, so please use it before uninstalling or changing device.

Network access

Edge makes network requests for exactly one purpose: downloading the AI models that run on your device. A language model is downloaded on first launch, and a smaller speech model is downloaded the first time you use voice input.

These downloads carry no personal data. They fetch model files and nothing else. Once a model has downloaded, Edge is fully functional with no network connection at all, which you can verify by using the app in airplane mode.

Microphone and speech recognition

If you use voice journaling or dictation, Edge requests microphone and speech recognition permission. Audio is transcribed by a model running on your device. Recordings and transcripts are not uploaded, and are stored under the same local encryption as everything else.

You can decline these permissions and continue using the rest of the app.

Photos and camera

If you attach an image to a conversation, Edge requests access to your photo library or camera at that moment. Images you attach are stored locally alongside the conversation and are never uploaded.

Diagnostics

Edge keeps a local log of recent errors so that problems can be reported. This log is never transmitted automatically. It leaves your device only if you open Settings, tap Copy diagnostics, and choose to share the result yourself.

The diagnostic bundle contains app version, platform, device model, model state, and error codes. It does not contain the text of your conversations or journal entries.

Third parties

Edge is built with open source components including React Native, Expo, llama.rn, and whisper.rn. These run locally on your device and do not transmit data to their authors or to us.

The app contains no advertising, no third-party analytics, and no social media SDKs. We do not sell or share the personal information of app users, because we do not have any. The website analytics described above are the sole exception, are consent-gated, and are confined to this site.

Children

Edge is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. As with all users, no information is collected in any case.

Your rights

Rights such as access, correction, portability, and erasure normally require a company to act on data it holds about you. We hold none. Your data is on your device and under your direct control: you can edit or erase any conversation, journal entry, or memory in the app at any time, and uninstalling removes all of it.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of Edge changes how data is handled, this page will be updated before that version ships, and the date at the top will change.
